WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS OF KISSPEPTIN?
Kisspeptins are a group of proteins essential for fertility. The first gene member was discovered in 1996 by researchers in Hershey, Pennsylvania where it received its name after the city’s chocolate ‘Kisses’.
HOW IS KISSPEPTIN CONTROLLED?
Kisspeptin is normally released in tandem with two other hormones, neurokinin B and dynorphin. The nerve cells producing kisspeptin, dynorphin and neurokinin B, are referred to as KNDy (‘candy’). It is still unclear exactly what the roles of neurokinin B and dynorphin are, however they appear to influence the release of Kisspeptin.
